Contact rivet technical drawing; Essential dimensions and signs

A detailed request starts with an unambiguous drawing. In addition to the overall diameter and length, the shape of the head, Working-layer thickness, the radius of the surface and the relationship between the axis of the head and the shank should be known.

Contact rivet drawing dimensionsSGEI technical guide

Head diameter and height; D and H

D is the diameter of the rivet head and H is the height of the whole head. These two dimensions affect the area available for switching, thermal mass and assembly space.

If the head is flat, spherical or stepped, check its cross section and radius or profile as well; Writing only the diameter of the head is not enough to reconstruct the shape.

Shank diameter and length; d and L

d is the diameter of the shank and L is the length of the shank from the bottom of the head to the end of the rivet. The diameter of the shank should be compatible with the carrier hole and the riveting process, and the length should provide enough metal to form a mechanical connection.

Consider the tolerance of the hole, the thickness of the carrier, the amount of protrusion before the rivet and the shape of the assembly tool along with the part drawing.

Working-layer thickness; S

In a bimetallic or trimetallic structure, S defines the thickness of the functional alloy in the switching region. This number must be defined by the measurement method and the location of the section; Because the shaping of the head can change the thickness in different places.

Specify the minimum acceptable thickness after forming and the joint integrity criterion separately.

Radius, angle and concentricity

SR is the radius of the spherical surface of the head. The angle of the die, the roundness of the edge and the co-axiality of the head and shank also have an effect on the seating of the part, the alignment of the contact surface and the stability of riveting.

For critical dimensions, only the nominal value is not enough; Also write the tolerance, measurement method, base level and number of inspection samples in the control document.

Orderable version checklist

Specify part number and drawing editing, unit of measurement, scale, material of each area, structure type, dimensions and tolerances, surface condition and packing method at once.

If the existing sample is a reference, compare the sample to the drawing and record any accepted differences before series production.

Practical summary

Any alloy, geometry, or corrective action decisions must be verified by controlled drawing and representative testing on the final assembly.
